Our Diagnostic Facility
The application of advanced diagnostic technology has put experts at Global Dental Care in a position to reach unambiguous diagnosis without confusion or doubt.
Intraoral Camera - Digital Photography Scans your mouth in seconds
Our office utilizes intraoral camera technology that helps enhance the understanding of your diagnosis. A very small camera; an intraoral camera lens can be just a few millimeters. It allows us to view clear, precise images of your mouth, teeth and gums, to enable us to accurately make a diagnosis. With clear, defined, enlarged images, the intraoral camera makes it possible for us to see details that may otherwise have been missed. Intra oral cameras also enable us to save your images in our office computer to provide a permanent record of treatments. These records can be printed for you, for other specialists and your lab or insurance companies.
Our hi-tech intra-oral camera not only enables you to see areas inside your mouth that need treatment such as areas affected by decay or gum diseases, but also allows for cosmetic imaging as well, thus changing the appearance of initial oral conditions to show the predicted results, before the treatment, on screen, in front of you.
One of the key elements in creating the most aesthetic and functional indirect restorations is providing the laboratory with digital imagery of surrounding teeth, opposing dentition, gums and facial features. By capturing these features our lab technician can identify the specific characteristics and nuances needed to develop the most aesthetic and functional restoration.

Caries Detector - Spot the Decay at Early Stage
The caries detector is invaluable to us in our modern, prevention-oriented caries therapy, as it helps us to evaluate, apart from caries, the risk of it occurring in a patient. Thus the detector enables us to arrive at a comprehensive diagnosis with accuracy. It is not always possible to prove the presence of caries by conventional clinical methods. Frequent x-rays are not the ideal method as they are difficult to assess precisely, particularly in the areas of fissures or smooth surfaces. The laser caries detector however, with its precise digital information makes it possible for us to arrive at reliable decisions.

How are Digital Dental X-Ray Images Made?
When the digital radiograph is exposed, the image is either transmitted to a computer processor (with or without a cable), or in the case of an imaging plate, it is removed and scanned by a special reader, similar to a CD player. Unlike conventional x-ray film that may take between three to five minutes to process, a digital x-ray image can be viewed quickly on the computer screen. The image is displayed in a large format on a computer screen rather than the small x-ray film that is viewed on a light box.
With digital x-ray images, technical errors can often be corrected to provide an optimal radiograph without having to make another x-ray exposure. Specific problem areas of a tooth can be enhanced with magnification as well as brightness and contrast alterations. Viewing an enhanced x-ray image on a computer screen can help a dentist to see a problem area better. Patients can more easily understand a dental problem or condition and discuss options for treatment. And, because the images are stored on the computer, they can easily be compared to any future x-ray images taken to compare past and present conditions.
Note:- Digital x rays are environmentally friendly. They eliminate the need for film and film processing chemicals that generate bio hazardous waste. Special light boxes to view the traditional x-ray films are no longer needed either.

Are Dental X-Rays Safe?
Dental x-ray examinations require very low levels of radiation exposure, which makes the risk of potentially harmful effects extremely small.
Dental x-ray equipment and techniques are designed to limit the body's exposure to radiation. Some steps that can limit the area exposed during any dental x-ray examination include:
  • Limiting the size of the x-ray beam to approximately the size of the film or sensor being used
  • Using a leaded apron and thyroid shield (most x-rays are stopped by lead)
Making Diagnosis Simpler
X-rays helps to find hidden problems that can affect your dental or general health. For this reason your dentist may periodically suggest that you have an x-ray examination.
Benefits of X-ray Examinations
By using x-rays we can discover dental problems early, before they have caused serious damage to your teeth, gums and the supporting bone. If these conditions are not detected until you have visible signs of disease, your oral health or general health can be seriously affected.
X-Rays Can Show:
  • Early dental caries (tooth decay) between the teeth or under the gumline
  • Bone loss caused by periodontal (gum) disease
  • Teeth that are impacted, abscessed, or erupting abnormally
  • Diseases and tumors of the jaw
The earlier dental problems are found, the earlier they can be treated. This saves you time, money and unnecessary discomfort. If you have an unseen tumor, x-rays can even save your life.

Why are Dental X-Rays Needed?
Many diseases of the oral cavity (including the teeth, surrounding tissues and bone) cannot be seen when the dentist examines your mouth.
An x ray examination may help the dentist see:-
  • Small areas of decay between the teeth or below existing restorations (fillings)
  • Bone destruction from a tooth infection (e.g., an abscess) or from a cyst
  • Bone loss due to periodontal (gum) disease
  • Developmental abnormalities
  • Some types of tumors
  • The effects of trauma
  • The position of un-erupted teeth in children and adults
Ortho Pantograph (OPG):
At Global Dental Care, our patients’ diagnosis is done through panoramic radiographs obtained on the Orthophos, a high-tech machine which provides the image necessary to diagnose the anomalies and pathologies associated with the teeth and jaws. The x-ray radiation from the Orthophos is 90% less than that of traditional methods.

Films
There are two kinds of film moving mechanisms, one using a sliding flat cassette which holds the film and another using a rotating cylinder which has the film wound around.
Digital
At Global Dental Care, dental x-ray radiology has moved from film technology (involving a chemical developing process) to digital x-ray which is based on electronic sensors and computers.
The advantages of digital x rays include:
  • Greater exposure latitude, translating into less repeats, automatically reducing patient exposure to radiation.
  • Lost x rays can be reprinted.
  • Instantly viewable images
  • Ability to enhance images
  • Ability to email images to practitioners and clients
  • Easy and reliable document handling
  • No use of chemicals

Diagnostic Uses
  • OPGs are used by dentists to provide information on:
  • Impacted wisdom teeth
  • Periodontal bone loss
  • Finding the source of dental pain
  • Assessment for the placement of dental implants
  • Orthodontic assessment
  • The most common use is to determine the status of wisdom teeth.

Before Your First Visit
These are some of the things that normally concern people about their teeth. It is a good idea to think about exactly what it is you don't like about your smile before you come in for the consultation so that we can make sure we use the time as constructively as possible. It is also important to know the type of smile you're aiming for - a 'Hollywood' dazzler or as natural a one as possible.
By listening to you we can discover exactly what you wish for and discuss the treatment options to achieve it. We will strive to make you feel as relaxed as possible so you are confident to express ideas in this very important first appointment.
Although everyone's idea of perfection is different, you may also like to consider the picture below of the 'classic' perfect smile.
Taking all the above into consideration, by listening to you and discovering exactly what you wish for, we will then create the perfect smile for you before your eyes. Using the latest digital photographic technology, we take a picture of your smile, download it onto the computer and image it. This allows you to see your new smile before any treatment begins.
By the end of the consultation, you will have all the facts you need to make your decision about your new smile and a full breakdown of the costs.

The Consultation
The cosmetic consultation is your first step in obtaining your perfect smile, and is an opportunity to meet us in a friendly and relaxed environment.
We listen to the problems you feel you have with your teeth and assess your treatment needs. This is explained to you and it is ensured you understand your treatment options. With your input your new smile is then designed on the computer in front of you.
We answer any questions you may have about cosmetic dental treatment and the provision of your new smile.
Imaging Your Smile
This is the latest computer technology, which is used to design your smile. With your input we design your new smile keeping to the rules of smile design.
The imaging system is a specially designed graphics program that is used to manipulate a picture of your smile on the computer screen. This picture is downloaded from a digital photo taken moments before in the clinic. With your input, we will design the smile you've always wanted and we will not design a smile that is impossible to achieve in real terms.

Smile Design The Rules
Horizontal Alignment
The teeth should be aligned to the horizontal or the eye line. Teeth quite often tilt which does not enhance the appearance of the smile
Symmetry
Ideally this should be across the facial midline. That is the tooth on one side should be the same shape and colour as its opposite number on the other side. This is of great importance in producing a pleasing smile. It cannot always be achieved but every effort should be made to create the appearance of a symmetrical smile
Top
Smile Line
The smile line, which joins the edges of the teeth, should follow the curve of the bottom lip. This gives a more youthful appearance. A flat line is associated with more worn and aged teeth. Women have more curved smiles than men.
Gum Line
This follows the line of the top lip. An uneven gum line is not as aesthetically pleasing.
Top
Curved Tooth Edges
Without curved edges the teeth would look very square. The edged become more curved the further back the teeth are in the mouth.
Crescent Shaped Gums
These give a more aesthetic appearance than flat gums.
Correct Tooth Proportions
The golden rules of Proportion describe an ideal ratio of the visible widths of the front six teeth 1.6/1.0/0.6.
Top
Tooth Proportion
Each individual tooth should be certain Proportions. For example the front tooth’s ideal width to height ration is 0.7:1.
Smile Width
The teeth should follow a curve backwards so that no dark spaces are left empty in the corners of the mouth. If this is the case it may appear that these are missing and the teeth in front are standing alone.
Your Individual Treatment Plan
Having designed your smile, we will provide you with a full breakdown of the costs and a treatment plan along with your computer image.

Various Procedures Involved More
According to the need and comprihesive treatment planing following procdures are done.
Most common procdure in smile designing is veneers.
Assuming that your gums are healthy, after the initial consultation, your new smile can be created in as little as 2 visits over a seven-day period.
At the 1st visit the teeth are prepared under a local anaesthetic. In the case of veneers the tooth preparation is kept to a minimum, just enough to allow the porcelain veneer to fit flush with the tooth.
Accurate impressions are taken and temporary veneers are placed which look very natural so that no one will realise you have had any treatment carried out.
From the impressions the laboratory makes models on which the veneers are individually hand crafted with the greatest precision using our instructions and the imaging picture.
A close communication is kept with the laboratory during the fabrication of your veneers so they are made to our exact specifications.
At the second visit the temporaries are removed and the veneers are tried in. Upon your approval they are then fitted with specialised UV light activated cements.
Your new beautiful smile is then complete.
